Apollo 18- I like the idea of it and parts of it made me jump I just feel it was so unnessacary for it to be found footage I think it would have worked better if the camera wasn't shaking constantly.
Atrocious- Didn't like it at all nothing creepy happens till the last ten minutes and even that was a total let down. Im surprised to see people enjoyed it. Paranormal Activity series- Didn't like the second one at all but the first and third were pretty entertaining. Rec 1 and 2- Enjoyed both of these very much and Quarantine was also pretty entertaining but Quarantine 2 (the american one on the plane) was complete garbage. Man Bites Dog- This one is highly recommended as others in the post have already stated. Grave Encounters- Really enjoyed this one especially the middle sections, ending was a bit weak but over all I jumped quite a few times. The Poughkeepsie Tapes- Another film I found disappointing I wish they had less of the documentary parts because they took away from the whole sense of tension. O well it was alright. |
Really liked The Last Exorcism. It went off in an unusual direction, and was far better than I expected it to be.

Apollo 18 - Really silly and stupid. 3/10
Grave Encounters - Pretty generic but really scary. 7/10 Grave Encounters 2 - Even more generic but still rather scary. 6/10 Paranormal Activity - Very well made and scary. 9/10 Paranormal Activity 2 - Not as scary as PA1 but still pretty entertaining. 6/10 Paranormal Activity 3 - Flashy but quite scary. 7/10 Paranormal Activity 4 - Horribly silly and boring. 2/10 [REC] - Scariest movie I've ever seen and my personal favorite movie. 9/10 [REC]2 - Not as scary as the first one but still intense. 8/10 Cloverfield - Really intense, and I liked the characters and story. 9/10 V/H/S - Uneven but has a couple good parts. 5/10 V/H/S/2 - Every segment was well made but not particularly scary. 7/10 As Above/So Below - Very entertaining and quite scary. 8/10 The Blair Witch Project - Creepy and extremely scary at the end. 9/10 The Tunnel - Really scary and claustrophobic. 8/10 Megan is Missing - Terrible acting and not very shocking. Standard Dateline stuff. 3/10 Devil's Due - Pathetic rip-off of Rosemary's Baby. 2/10 |
Lost Coast Tapes
Willow Creek |
Rec and Atrocious are two of my favs. Rec being number 1 for sure. Atrocious is really great too, amazing atmosphere and solid creepiness the whole way through. Wasn't a huge fan on the ending but still good.
Paranormal Activity scared me when I first saw it too, but they decline with each release tremendously. |

7/10 Chronicle 2012 - Very well made photo-realistic FX found footage film. Very interesting story on realistic take on teens gaining telekinesis powers.
7/10 Cloverfield - More than just found footage, but excellently made photo-realistic effects. Thought it was a fresh approach & pretty exciting. Looses quite a bit off the big screen. 6/10 Blair Witch - Very well acted film, much more in personality studies than horror. 5/10 Paranormal Activity - some worthwhile efforts here. I think they needed more material for a full-length feature 4/10 Grave Encounters - came off contrived to me. I thought a more serious, detailed, better researched & more realistic production might have produced one the best & most perennial films ever made. Missed opportunity. Cuts both ways... people who know something about this subject matter know the film was insulting rubbish. And the people most likely to want to see the film are people who know something about the subject matter, who will hate the disparaging bunk. 3/10 Rec - came over very contrived to me. I didn't find it scary. not to mention very unflattering portrayal of asians -/10 Apollo 18 & Europa Report - shut them off within the first 15 mins. A mission to Europa is very interesting to me. I may give it another shot. Curious to see Trollhunters, Last Exorcism, Cannibal Apocalypse & Man Bites Dog. |

I have not seen any of the Grave Encounters. Paranormal Activity - I have seen all of them but I real enjoyed The Marked Ones the best. Unfortunately, I missed [Rec] and [Rec] 2 but I watched [Rec] 3 on Netflix recently(instant) and I loved it! I have to watch the other two now! Hated Cloverfield. I love the V/H/S movies!! Second one was better! As Above/So Below - I really want to see this one!! I love The Blair Witch Project!! I think they did an amazing job making the audience feel like it was real and I really felt like I was a part of the film. The Tunnel - I will have to check this one out. Megan is Missing - mediocre but I still enjoyed it. Devil's Due - terrible!! Quarantine - I loved the first one, hated the second one. |

Reading the thread, I see no one's mentioned Chronicle (2012) except me. I think it's the best one. It's not really horror, but it's found footage.
Anybody else see Chronicle (2012)? What'd ya think? |

I guess looking through the list the only one that really stuck out to me was Man Bites Dog.
Cloverfield was ok in spots. Cannibal Holocaust was something for it's time period so it has some historical impact. But I haven't found any of the popular horror ones to be remotely scary or even slightly creepy. Paranormal Activity, REC, V/H/S, Grave Encounters, Blair Witch, etc. none of them really did anything for me other than either make me yawn or feel like I should have picked another movie. After seeing The Blair Witch Project I actually went up to my buddy who worked at the local movie theater and said I wanted my money back. That's only happened like 3 or 4 times in my life. I liked the idea of Frankenstein's Army. Had it been done as a real film instead of found footage and with a different cast and a decent budget it could have been really cool. I've seen most of the rest mentioned but none of them were really all that memorable. I guess I'm still waiting for one that sets a new standard. Man Bites Dog was something new and totally original, but I haven't seen anything from the found footage genre that really stands out as something I haven't seen before or puts a unique spin on something. |
Oh, I forgot about Chronicle - I liked that one too (but the fact that I forgot about it doesn't necessarily bode THAT well)... ;)

I also find it strange that a person who claims to be from Ireland has trouble composing one decent sentence in English. |

Some of my favourite found-footage films:
Afflicted - can't spoil this, you have to see it. The Tunnel - don't go in there.. Devil's Due - somewhat remnant of Rosemary's Baby, fun and gory Home Movie - evil children, adorable but sinister Alien Abduction - i love alien films. so eerie. |
Found Footage
For me the best are Rec1&2.
Some new ones that I thought weren't bad were As Above So Below and Ghost Team One(which is more a comedy than horror, but entertaining) |
I haven't seen many, but The Bay and Afflicted were probably the best I've seen.
I think VHS and VHS2 were pretty overrated - but there were was one story from each that I thought was really good. Absence (2013) and The Last Exorcism were alright. |
I have to say, the absolute best found footage stuff I have seen is by far "Marble Hornets" which is a youtube series about Slenderman, which scared the poop out of me. I was seriously terrified!
Following this, my favorite would be "Troll Hunter" because it wasn't scary but it was a lot of fun. I thought that was a totally awesome movie. I really didn't like "Blair Witch Project" but it did scare me to death seeing as I was growing up in the country at the time. I can respect it for what it did though, and for what came from such a creative film. I also hated "Paranormal Activity" because it scared the living poop out of me as well. I couldn't sleep after watching that either. And I refuse to watch any of the other films because of how scared I was. That's not saying it's a bad movie, it was just terrifying. I really like the VHS films (the first being my least favorite). They aren't really scary but they are fun to watch. I just think the first one was too crude. I liked all the others quite a bit though. |
"I hate these movies because they scare me."
That's the most contradictory statement I've seen. |
