The Rest Of The STORY...R.I.P.

Paul Harvey, once known as the most listened to man in radio, has died at the age of 90 at a hospital near his winter home in Phoenix.

Harvey's career in radio spanned more than 70 years, and his shows "News & Comment" and "Rest of the Story" made him a familiar voice in Americans' homes across the country.

His death comes nine months after that of his wife, Lynne Cooper Harvey, whom he often called "Angel" on air, and who was also his business partner and the first producer ever inducted in the the Radio Hall of Fame.

"My father and mother created from thin air what one day became radio and television news," Paul Harvey Jr. said. "So, in the past year, an industry has lost its godparents. And, today millions have lost a friend."

From his humble beginnings as a teenager helping out cleaning up at a local radio station, Harvey went on to have his broadcasts carried by 1,350 commercial radio stations, as well as 400 stations of the Armed Forces Radio Service, and was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 1990.

Bronk said Silver was with his family in New York City and he had been fighting esophageal cancer for two years.

He reminded me of Al Pacino.

62 is no age at all but at least he went surrounded by family at home.

For some reason the role I will always remember him for is The Entity, probably one the first things I ever saw him in.

Natasha Richardson faced a tragic final curtain Tuesday night as her heartbroken family gathered in New York to say farewell to the Tony Award-winning actress.

Felled by a skiing accident, Richardson had "been on life support since this morning," a source close to the family said yesterday. "She is brain-dead."

Her husband, actor Liam Neeson, and their two sons, Michael, 13, and Daniel, 12, were with her.

So was Richardson's mother, legendary actress Vanessa Redgrave. Richardson's sister, actress Joely Richardson, was also helping them deal with this "absolutely dire and terrible" situation, the source said.

Late last night, Joely fought back tears and declined to comment as she took her stricken sister's sons into Lenox Hill Hospital, where Natasha was on a ventilator.

It was a sudden, tragic finale for the 45-year-old actress, whose late father was Oscar-winning director Tony Richardson.

What made the loss even harder to accept was that Richardson didn't appear to be badly hurt when she wiped out while skiing on a bunny slope at a Canadian resort Monday afternoon.

Her sons were with her at the time. Richardson, laughing at her own clumsiness, refused at first to go to a doctor, witnesses said.

Tuesday night, there were tears as Richardson's family prepared to follow the heart-crushing choreography that goes with making the decision to let a loved one go.

"The rule of thumb is: You have two neurological exams, 12 hours apart, to show that there is no evidence of higher brain activity," said Dr. Philip Stieg, chairman of New York-Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell's department of neurological surgery.

"If that is so, the patient is brain-dead; they are clinically dead."

At that point, he said, "The family has two options:

"You turn off the ventilator, the heart will stop beating, and that is it," he said. Or, the family can keep her alive a bit longer "and allow them time to say goodbye."

The tragedy sent shock waves down Broadway.

Richardson won her Tony in 1998 for playing Sally Bowles in "Cabaret." She is "theater royalty," said William Ivey Long, who designed her costumes.

"Natasha is strong, but when you hear about something so horrible you think about those vulnerable characters" she has played, Long said.

"Natasha is one of the greatest actresses of her generation," added Todd Haimes, artistic director of the Roundabout Theatre Company. "Incredibly sweet, gracious."

Richardson has another strong tie to Broadway - she met her husband when they starred together in "Anna Christie."

Newb, where'd you get this? I just checked all the news websites, and they all say she's still alive. And, the article's wrong, she met Liam Neeson when they filmed "Nell".

I heard about this this morning. I guess it happened in Montreal. She wasn't earing a helmet, was learning to ski on the bunny hill, wiped out, got up and joked about it, didn't want to see a doctor and went to her hotel and later complained of a headache and went to the doctor.

Just thought I would shorten the wall of text for anyone who wanted to know.

I am jumping the gun a bit on this....technically she is still alive....but then again...we've had some brain-dead people posting on this very site.

Its scary how something so innocuous can end up killing you.

A simple knock on the bonce and before you know it, bleeding in the brain.
How shit is that?

_____V_____ 03-19-2009 04:50 AM

And so it ended...

After sustaining brain damage in a freak ski accident Monday, actress Natasha Richardson died Wednesday at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York.

She was 45.

http://i385.photobucket.com/albums/o...oo/main1-1.jpg

A member of the Redgrave acting dynasty -- and a Tony winner for "Cabaret" in 1999 -- Richardson was skiing at Mont-Tremblant near Montreal when she suffered a seemingly minor fall during a ski lesson.

The actress felt fine, but later complained of a headache and was hospitalized, then flown on Tuesday to the U.S. with swelling of the brain. Reports indicate she was taken off life support on Wednesday.

She was married to Liam Neeson, with whom she had two sons, and was the daughter of Vanessa Redgrave.

She was born in London in 1963 and made her film debut at age 4 in "The Charge of the Light Brigade," directed by her father, Tony Richardson.

In "Vanessa Redgrave: An Autobiography," the actress describes her daughter as Ophelia in a Young Vic production of "Hamlet." Richardson did not play the "mad scene" as insane, but rather grief-stricken at the horrors she'd seen adults commit. It quieted the rowdy audience of young students and her grandfather, Sir Michael Redgrave summed up, "She's a true actress" -- high praise from someone who was not easily impressed.

Her biggest triumphs continued to be on the stage, particularly in New York, though she had a successful career on TV and in films. One of her most prominent earlier roles was starring as "Patty Hearst" in the 1988 Paul Schrader biopic.

Other notable film roles included Ken Russell's "Gothic," "A Month in the Country," "The Handmaid's Tale" (1990), "Nell," "The Comfort of Strangers," "Widows' Peak," "The Parent Trap" (1998), "Maid in Manhattan," "The White Countess" (2005) and last year's "Evening."

She also worked occasionally in television, notably opposite Maggie Smith in a 1993 remake of Tennessee Williams' "Suddenly, Last Summer," directed by Richard Eyre.

"Not only was Natasha Richardson one of the greatest actresses of her generation," Roundabout A.D.'s Todd Haimes said in a statement, "but she was also a treasured member of the Roundabout family and a wonderful friend. Our hearts go out to Natasha’s family at this devastating time.”

Among her survivors are her husband; her mother; her sister, actress Joely Richardson; and two sons.

Are you taking the piss or what?

Jade fuckin' Goody isnt worthy to be mentioned here in this thread. Whats happening to her is sad but at the end of the day she is a talentless reality tv contestant who whored her life to any sleazy tabloid willing to pay her money.

As far as Natasha Richardson, its a real shame. She was talented and beautiful.

_____V_____ 03-22-2009 09:17 AM

Whatever she may be, she deserves a spot here too.

http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...429346748l.jpg

Terminally ill British television reality star Jade Goody died in her sleep in the wee hours on Sunday, her publicist Max Clifford announced.

Goody, 27, who was diagnosed with cervical cancer in August last year, is survived by her two sons Freddy and Bobby and husband Jack Tweed.

The dental nurse died at home in Upshire, Essex, UK, after a very public battle with the disease. She shot into fame as a Big Brother contestant in 2002.

Born as Jade Cerisa Lorraine Goody on June 5, 1981, her mother Jackiey Budden raised her as a single parent after her father left them when she was just two years old. Goody had openly spoken about her troubled childhood and her struggle to get an education saying that her poverty-ridden early days prompted her to secure a better future for her sons from a relationship with television presenter Jeff Brazier.

Goody, 27, died in her sleep in the early hours today with her mother Jackiey and husband Jack Tweed by her side at her home in Upshire, Essex at 0314 GMT, away from public glare and cameras that dominated her short life.

Goody's sons had planned to hand over a pair of hand-made cards and flowers this morning to their mother.

The star, who was being treated at the Royal Marsden Hospital in west London, was shifted to her home after expressing the desire to die surrounded by her family.

She was in a coma-like state for last 48 hours.

Her publicist and close friend Clifford said "She was a very, very brave girl and she faced her death in the way she faced her whole life - full on, with a lot of courage," he said.

OMG, this is devastating! I love "Angel" and totally loved Lorne. What a great character. Rest in peace, Andy. :(

ferretchucker 03-31-2009 07:32 AM

Never watched Angel but that's too young to die.

As for Jade Goody, I think it's terrible too that she died so young, and it was Mothering Sunday here in England. However, what does annoy me is that since she got cancer she is suddenly no longer a bad person. She was still a racist cow, it's just unfortunate what happened to her. I wish people wouldn't suddenly change their opinions just because someone gets ill and or dies.

The only thing on the news is that he was found passed out in the broadcaster's booth in Washington. Don't have a cause of death yet.

if losing an old radio announcer, your mother's friend and her aunt is overwhelming to you... you might want to turn back.
