Here's my top 10:
1) Iron Man 2) Rambo 3) Dark Knight 4) Incredible Hulk 5) Cloverfield 6) Hellboy 2 7) Mother of Tears (had some silly parts, but still really enjoyed it) 8) Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (I'm sorta like Butters in the SP episode....didn't see what all the hate was about). 9) Death Race (Just watched it recently and found it to be quite entertaining for the mood I was in) 10) Doomsday Here's movies still yet to see to explain why they are not on my top 10: Gran Torino The Wrestler Let the Right One In Wanted Biggest Disappointments: 1) Diary of the Dead (C'mon George.....) 2) The Strangers (though I didnt have any expectations either...which really spoke to me just how badly I thought it sucked. 3) Get Smart (How do you have such an unfunny movie with such funny people?) 4) Teeth (awfully unclever, unfunny, unscary, unsexy, unartistic, feminist shit...) Movie that I thought was released this year, and would have been my #2 2) Inside (Super impressed with how it managed to be horrifying in the right way that I like a horror movie to be horrifying...much better than most of the french horror I have seen lately) My tastes are my own and my criteria is not really based on good scripts, good acting, or critical acclaim. -D |

Top 10 of 08
1-Tropic Thunder 2-Pineapple Express 3-Diary of the Dead 4-Cloverfield 5-The Dark Knight 6-Doomsday 7-The Strangers 8-Ghost Town 9-Iron Man 10-The Incredible Hulk Honorable Mention (I enjoyed all of these very much, but they didn't quite make the top 10.) Rambo Wall-E Midnight Meat Train Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Hellboy 2: The Golden Army Kung Fu Panda 11 Lamest of 08 Be Kind Rewind Day of the Dead: The Need to Feed The Happening Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Lost Boys: The Tribe Semi-Pro Prom Night The Love Guru Meet the Spartans Wanted You Don't Mess with the Zohan (Disclaimer: The Lamest are not necessarily the 11 worst movies of the year for me. They just happen to be 11 films I had higher hopes for and was ultimately very disappointed with.) |

Also...I completely forgot about Tropic Thunder. I'd put that somewhere around my #6 and #7, bumping stuff down as necessary. Really funny flick. -D |
Hell Ride was hands down my favorite followed by Stuck.
|
I wasn't excited about very many movies that were out last year. The only movies I really got into were The Strangers, Let the right one in, Cloverfield, and Wanted.
|
Clover was sexy. Like i'm going to stomp on you, then eat you sexy.
I NEED SLEEP. Insomnia is not fun children. Neither is an all-night coke session with 4 hookers. |
The Angra Knight
Gran Torino Seven Pounds Religulous |

Best Film 2008
Without a doubt it would be Inside, probably Seed, i did like The Strangers especially the ending.
Fond of monster films so Cloverfield made me happy. Teeth was alot better than i thought it would be, as was Wrong Turn 2. Nameless Feast - was it 08 or 07? Planet Terror Il think of some more . . . Has any1 seen Donkey Punch yet? |

Edit: I just saw that you don't live in the USA so I dunno what your release dates are like over there. I was mostly commenting from my own local release dates, naturally. And I haven't seen it....but really Seed? Uwe Boll has never made a movie that I would consider in my top 1000 much less most enjoyable movie of the year. Even when he does the "So bad it's good", I still can't give him the kind of credit I give to actual comedies. Not blasting your tastes...I'm just genuinely curious what makes it worth watching and one of the best movies of the year on top of that. What did you like so much about it? -D |
Oh i thought they were last year because i bought them all uncut, but it seems the uncuts are often released later.
Normally id agree with you on Boll but i read loads of good reviews so i eventually found the uncut and was very surprised that a serial killer film could still be disturbing and unrelenting. Didnt like the animal torture though, had to skip through that! Our release dates are usually later than yours if the film is from US but other foreigns we usually get first. But thats all irrelevant now because of the net. Oh and those werent my absalute favs just some i could remember of the top of my head. which mostly turned out to be the year before!! Watch Mum and Dad - UK film just released and really worth a watch. Hailed as the best british horror this decade, although i think the Descent was abit better. Im off to watch Cure now another film from late 90s, its 1am here and i only have time for one horror before bed, sweet dreams! |
Home Movie is on a couple people's list? Where are you guys finding this? I had never even heard of it until this thread so I looked it up on imdb and there's less than 50 votes for it. I then searched netflix, redbox and ebay and came up with nothing. Where'd you get it? Or did you see it at a festival or soemthing? Is it out on DVD yet?

Even though it didn't get a lot of play and it's about a completely different type of horror, the holocaust, I thought the best movie I saw all year was "The Boy In The Stripped Pajamas".
|
Home Movie was really good, but it's not really the kind of horror movie I like to watch. I was actually just talking with Flayed about this the other day, oddly enough.
For me, I like my horror "fun" or "scary" or both. I didn't think Home Movie was fun or scary...it was just frustrating. Good, yes...quality, yes....something I would watch again? No. I recommend it at least once, though...and depending on the kind of horror you like, you may even want to rewatch it over and over. -D |
HMMMM.......I'd say 'Twilight, even though I know that you all are gonna joke on me so bad..............LMAO!!! But it really was good! Also, 'Wanted' was a pretty awesome movie!!:D
|
Its a tie between Twilight and Nite Tales...

Far from clueless...........Sorry that I didn't think there were very many "good" movies out this year. There weren't. Every film this year was way below par. So there is no need to dig at me......... |
While Twilight was AMAZING, I just saw Slumdog Millionaire last night and I have to say that it's going to be unsurprising to see it win Best Picture.
Oh, and just to clarify, I've never seen Twilight nor do I ever intend to. |
Best film of 08 is between The Dark Knight and The Wrestler.
Favorite film of 08, you guessed it, Rambo, no question. I thought Slumdog Millionaire was a pretty damn good movie, but honestly I dont think it holds up to the first two. I'd actually be kinda pissed if it wins Best Picture instead of one of the first two I mentioned. |

I hate being "that guy" that hasn't seen the movie and still forms an opinion, but somehow I just don't see how Twilight can be even a favorite unless you've only watched 1 movie.
Blah, blah, blah tastes and all that....but damn, seriously. You said yourself you knew people were going to make fun of you, lol. It's kinda hard not to with some of the amazing movies made this year. As for Twilight itself, I've only heard that people that loved the book REALLY love the book and they thought the movie stunk. And people that never read the books still didn't get what all the fuss was about....so I really see no reason to get into the craze. As it is, I kinda hate vampire movies anyway (at least, the modern day "everyone's a goth dude/chick" version). But that's me just being an ignorant prick forming opinions when I haven't see it...sue me :p -D |

It's almost like Ive been living in a cave regarding this whole Twilight thing. The only time I've heard about it is when Jon Stewart mentioned it briefly on the daily show, had no idea until now it was about vampires, and had a movie as well. I know True Blood is all the rage, but I watched a few episodes and it didn't really grab me. |

You've heard wrong........no vampire lays any sexual claim to a baby. While I've read all the books also, and if you gave it a chance you might be suprised. Unstead of going into it thinking 'oh, this is a teeny flick chick movie. It's not. While I admit that it is nowhere near as good as the book, it was a good movie. It had depth and imagination behind it. I will also say though, that another movie that was quite good, and I forgot it till now, was "No Country For Old Men". It was very under rated just like "Twilight" was. |
Yeah...Best Picture winners are usually pretty underrrated

it wasnt a goth thing at all - which was one positive thing about it - it was more 90210 - which means it wasnt for me - but it was something i could take my kid to and he enjoyed it. it was no where near as bad as i thought - it was geared more to 16 year old girls - but i didnt hate it. |

i just found out where this came from .. very distorted and taken out of context. in the 3rd book - the indian-werewolves describe how they find their mates by 'imprinting' - when they meet their mate - they just know. unfortunately one werewolf met his - but she was 2 years old ... so he has to wait 20 years. no vampires, no sexual claims. as far as these books go - the 1st one wasnt bad. then they turned to complete shit. real girly-girl romances and once again the vampire VS werewolf bullshit. any origionality in the 1st book was thrown out the window after that. |
