I'm a christian and a practicing christian and I'm offended but the two most important documents to me are the bible and constitution. I have a right to be offended and you have the right to say offending stuff.

If we can agree on that we just created a relationship with one commonality. I believe it is in everyone's best interest to be a follower of Jesus but it's a choice and I don't push it -- it's that whole free will and freedom thing.

btw, this is not a christian nation.

Q: How do you deal with Christian religion-themed horror movies and, in particular, blasphemous content?

PR3SSUR3 01-11-2006 03:58 PM

Oh, and doth my avatar offend thee?

From Goths encountered, there seems to be a schizophrenic pre-occupation with dangling a load of blingy crucafixes... juxtaposed with Satanic bits and pieces and ideology.

A hilariously pointless fad, Gothism.

:D

BH14 01-11-2006 04:58 PM

Why do people waste their time on hating? Yet, some people will spend their time and energy describing on why they hate catholic religion. Either lot of time or lot of extra hate in their lives. I dont know. They will even waste their time in finding stupid offensive avatars or pics.... If you dont know anything about the religion, it doesnt make you qualified of knowing it all. If you dont know anything about a subject, then you probably shouldnt be talking about it. That even goes for people that take a 3 month course about the religion. Catholic religion is a way of life and not a college course that is trying to "impress" you to join them.

The biggest problem with religion is not the message, but the messenger. Organised religion is deeply hypocritical. When you see the Pope (for example) and hundreds of cardinals living in luxury in the vast palaces in the Vatican State, with hundreds of millions of dollars being horded away, I always wonder how they can talk about charity to others when all that money could help millions of people worldwide. Religion on a small scale, within local communities, can make a big difference to peoples lives but so much more, given the resources of these organisations, could be done.

I personally do not believe in the existence of a God but Im happy to respect others peoples delusions ;) !

Now let me have my say in this issue before we call this thread shot.

I hate it when people say that they respect my religion, then go on to call it a "delusion" and call it "hypocritical". Those are not the most respectful terms I can think of.

As some here may remember, I used to be a die-hard atheist and I couldn't understand the religious way of life, but I dont think I ever called it delusional. Now I'm on the other side of the fence. God has come into my life, and I wouldn't want it any other way, but I'm not going to force it on anyone else.

K, I'm done. Good discussion guys :)

I meant I respect peoples right to believe what they wish, I certainly do not respect organized religion as a whole because it does not practice what it preaches.
The 'delusions ;) ' bit was just a little humour, no offence meant.

Just wanted to remind everyone, that the only reason i started thread was to poke fun and get a cheap laugh out of that guy who came to this sire (peaceforjesus).

Its just a parody on his post.
This thread got wayyy too serious.

Haunted 01-12-2006 07:30 AM

Well, I'm gonna say that most of the Christians that have posted on this thread seem pretty cool. That's great. We need more cool Christians. Go out and make yourselves an example to the morons. I'd try to go and make myself and example to other Witches, but I think I'd be setting a bad precidence. I've...uh... kinda broken the reed: An in it harm none, do what thou will. That's why I refer to myself as the "Not Quite So Wicked Witch" I don't want to be hypocritical. (You know, I don't want to be the Pat Robertson of Witchcraft).

Going on... I give much kudos to Hammerfan for being one of the coolest Christians I've ever had the pleasure of knowing.

Orangestar, I happy that you've found something fulfilling in your life. That's awesome.

To our atheists: Rock on. You like science; I like science. From my faithful perspective I don't condemn you at all. I just think you're in for a treat when it's all said and done. "I'll see you on the dark side of the moon."

Anyhow so alot of you believe in God. Do you believe that the Bible & its message has been used wrongly over the years for the betterment of others? :)

The bible was warped and twisted probably as soon as it saw the light of day and then really got it's groove on back in the beginning of roman catholic times to keep the LITTLE people in line, and also because peons were basically too stupid to understand the real version:rolleyes:

Anybody interested in it though, research for yourself-Elaine Pagals is one of the best religous untanglers I have ever read-she is very easy to understand and rarely goes beyond the average intellect:D

Imagine getting an Elaine Pagals reference on a horror website. Nice one there! She is great.. :D

Her book 'Origins of Satan' changed my life.
I still want a copy of the Gnostic Gospels,it's probably the only thing she has written that I haven't read thru and thru.

I have had a personal experience that leads me to believe there is something out there that we belong to and that loves us more dearly than we can comprehend.....and religion doesn't even begin to explain it or even touch on that.

I still believe in a supreme being and am a member of a Lutheran church(although I haven't been to church in quite a while) but I do not trust most religions-christian or otherwise-they all seem to have there alterior motives that has nothing to do with enlightenment and human progress.

Origins Of Satan? Sounds interesting.

May i have a brief synopsis?

I know a lot of people that are considered 'Goth'...And almost ALL of them belong to some type of religion (There are Christians, Pagans, Wiccans, Buddhists, and others)so...No, It wouldn't make sense for the majority of them to 'bash religion'

I don't have a problem with anyone believing in anything they want to, religion is a personal thing...I only take offense when someone tries to push their religion on me...

Wouldn't a Christian be offended if someone told them that they should be Pagan?...That's all I'm saying...

Oh lordy,I'll try....

Pagals tells of where 'Satan' originated from and how in each new 'version' of religious texts, and each new age of man Satan becomes more and more prominent(sp?) and 'Evil'.
It's like he 'Grows' into the Satan we all know and love today:D
I can't remember exactly how this book ends,it's been a long time since I read it,but this would be a good book to check out if you have the time.

HAW! I'mma go up in to Go Fish, our local Christian bookstore, and start preaching the Word of the Goddess. Just for you, Rayne:D

Okay, maybe not. They can go up in Paga bookshops and bitch and preach, but one of steps inside their stores... We'd get slapped with disturbing the peace.

Another point is that there are fanatics in EVERY religion.. These idiots are the ones who ruin it for everyone else.. :D

wood_elf_pansy 01-13-2006 11:23 AM

Up untill I was 16 I was all for Jesus and the bible and whatnot but then something happened that you would think wouldn't change that. I moved in with a Christian woman because I called DFS on my dad. Well, at first we went to church on Sundays and Wednesdays. Then we started going to ladys nights once a month. Then we started going on Tuesdays also. Next thing I know we are going to church almost everyday of the week. Can I say OVERLOAD. On top of that it was a pentecostal church. I had never been to one before. I went to Baptist churches my whole life until then. Well, it was as if they wanted me to feel something I didn't feel. They got me up in front of the church, everyone put their hands on me and started talking in "tounges" as they called it. The paster put his hand on my head and was praying and pushing me backward. As if he was trying to make me fall. Maybe that is why the old ladys were all falling to the floor. Because they were pushed by the Pastor and not because they felt the power of the "holy ghost". Since this happened I have decided that I don't believe in a god or the bible. I don't have a problem with anyone elses beliefs because that is on them but, I just dont see how that stuff is even possible. A guy losses all his strength after getting his hair cut off, what? I think I believe in evolution more than anything. I also believe that their has to be aliens out there. The universe is too big for there not to be any other kind of life out there. You know. Wow. That was flippin' long. My bad.
