haven't seen it mentioned here, but House of Leaves could make a fucked up movie

horrorobsessed 05-26-2006 05:28 PM

the Anita Blake books would make good movies.

graphic movies, but good.

I loved the first book, but I couldnt get through the second one. I thought it was terrible...for the most part it was just a re-hash with a couple new characters. I havent bothered with the rest.

The first one definatly would make a great film though...

You win for mentioning this book, but I think this one falls under the category of "unfilmable."

Anyway, here's my list:
Neuromancer by William Gibson
Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
Mephisto in Onyx by Harlan Ellison
The Forge of God by Greg Bear
Perdido Street Station by China Mieville

_____V_____ 05-26-2006 06:54 PM

I have read a lot of books which have been made into movies, esp of my fav author Stephen King.
Sidney Sheldon's The Doomsday Conspiracy would make a good movie.
Then there's Ayn Rand's Fountainhead.
Ringworld by Larry Niven.
The Island of the Day Before by Umberto Eco.

dunno if anyone else read these, but they would make some fantastic movies...

If Naked Lunch and Requiem for a Dream can be made into movies, anything can

also, Wolfgang Peterson and David Benioff are adapting Ender's Game in 2008

_____V_____ 05-26-2006 06:59 PM

Mom tells me a movie was made on Ayn Rand's Fountainhead in the 50s starring Gary Cooper. It would look good in a modern-day adaptation though, maybe have someone like Tom Hanks in the lead.

Miss Olivia 05-26-2006 09:47 PM

I would like to see The Bridge by John Skipp and Craig Spector made into a movie...if the right people did it it would be a nightmare from beginning to end, with no magic happy ending in sight. Definitely one of the easier-to-translate to screen stories, too.

filmmaker2 05-26-2006 10:00 PM

Yes, there was a film made of Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead, and it was good, too.

Of course, thematically the novel is not the most commercial property for a movie adaptation (not enough stuff blowing up?) but I bet you could remake the film, maybe adding some zombies and video game graphics and maybe a rave party.

Tat2 05-26-2006 11:56 PM

The one I have been waiting for:

The Talisman!!!!!!!!!!1

Co writers S. King and P. Straub.

This was a fantastic book, and because they make all of kings books into movies at some point, I gotta see this one!

Dante'sInferno 05-27-2006 12:11 AM

Treasure Island!

Wow, that's cool as hell. Of course, I'm not going to hold out too much hope for it, but I'd love to see it.

Angra 05-27-2006 05:48 AM

Dennis Lehane´s "Shutter Island".

Dan Simmons "Summer of night".

Haunted 05-27-2006 07:06 AM

They've done Treasure Island. Unfortunately, it was done by Disney. Those bastards...

I believe that's in the works right now.

evil_deadman 05-27-2006 10:00 PM

Well..another 1 thats in the works..or supposed to be,by Stephen King..which i have mentioned in other threads here.."The Mist."!..Damn i am looking foreward to that.IF they ever do make it,that is.

also..
Many H.P.Lovecraft stories..or 1's that havent allready been made into movies,as well as a remake of The Dunwich Horror.
Midnight -Dean Koontz
Mine -Robert R McCammon
Stinger-Robert R McCammon
Twighlight Eyes-Dean Koontz
Smoke Ghost-or Conjure Wife- Fritz Leiber
Children of the Kingdom-T.E.D Klein
It-Theodore Sturgeon
In the Dark-Richard Laymon
The Revelation-Bently Little
The Nightmare Chronichles-Douglas Clegg (with maybe 3 or 4 of the best stories ,and with the main story as sort of a wrap around story itself ..i.e creepshow, tales from the darkside the movie..etc.)

Miss Olivia 05-28-2006 08:34 PM

Oh man, if they do Midnight and Stinger right those will be killer movies...Midnight had some real nightmare stuff in it....people growing into their computers and stuff....Stinger's about aliens....

Wasn´t "Midnight" about people turning into wolf-like creatures??

evil_deadman 05-31-2006 03:58 PM

Well..with "Midnight"..just imagine the CGI possibilities..hmmmm;) ..of course with "Stinger" as well as "The Mist" Some "old school cheesy FX would work better i think!

evil_deadman 05-31-2006 04:07 PM

In Midnight ,the people of Moonlight Cove regressed into just about anything and everything that was part of the human imagination from fusing with and becoming one with their computers, to transforming into wolflike, doglike, alien lifeforms,arachnid,,insectile,..just about any creature imaginable just by sheer will..or by the urge to regress, and few of the converted could resist the urge ,altho the sheriff,Loman Watkins was pretty succesful and in the end was the one to end the threat and put an end to the converted, regressed and non-regressed alike.

Miss Olivia 05-31-2006 05:52 PM

If they made Stinger old school style, I would be a very happy girl. Midnight though, I think that would definitely benefit from some CGI magic, with as complex as the transformations, let alone the creatures themselves, would be. I would definitely like to see what they do with that.

evil_deadman 07-23-2006 08:10 PM

Of course too much CGI does ruin a movie, but there are some instances where .if kept to a minimum and done right, the CGI effects are mind boggling. plus..in some movies, the effects any other way just wouldnt work as well!

haunted was crap, choke would make a better movie.

I want to see Women by Charles Buckowski

orangestar 07-23-2006 08:31 PM

The Langoliers by Stephen King is one of the best stories I've ever read...but it was made into a crappy made-for-TV movie. This is one of the only times I would really appreciate a remake.

novadawn969 07-25-2006 02:56 PM

I'd love to see:

Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card (& the rest of the series)

Endless night by Richard Laymon

& so many others!!!

The only problem is that the movies they make after books always leave out alot. The books have too much info...

Yes, excellent story I agree.

I don't think I've seen the cheap movie they made a few years ago... I wonder how the crunching ball that grew to eliminate everything turned out in it?

novadawn969 07-26-2006 09:26 PM

Oh, one more. Blood and Chocolate by... someone...

It turned out cheap and crunchy.

Angra 07-27-2006 12:18 AM

Haruki Murakami´s "The Wind-up Bird Chronicle"

For some reason, I wanted this made into a movie...

I now regret my decision. :(

Roderick Usher 02-28-2007 06:13 PM

A Confederacy of Dunces - John Kenedy Toole

Geek Love - Kathrine Dunn

The Wasp Factory - Iain Banks - the book I most want to adapt and direct myself.

read 'em
Each one is brilliantly written, engrosing and perfect for a film adaptation...like to see Geek Love done by Henry Selik

crabapple 02-28-2007 06:16 PM

A Wrinkle In Time...a big movie adaptation. Always loved the book.

The Mothman 03-01-2007 07:24 AM

Cell..i think its being done though

stubbornforgey 03-01-2007 09:13 AM

hell..
the list is phenomenal

I would like to see some of uwe bolls work in paperback..
maybe the movies would come out better in a book :o

The_Return 03-01-2007 04:56 PM

One that I'd kinda like to see done is The Yearbook by Peter Lerangis.

It's by no means high literature, but its a very etertaining read and could be easily adapted to film. Has anyone else here read it?

Dominion 03-01-2007 05:26 PM

Only Forward by Michael Marshall Smith, one of my favorite books of all time and there definitely isn't enough good sci-fi being made.

The STE 05-11-2008 06:30 PM

If I ever made a family movie, I would make a film adaptation of "The Biggest Sandwich Ever" by Rita Gelman. It's one of the three best children's books ever.
