Not to mention all the horror classics that are unrated but wouldn't even approach an R today.

It's the quality of the film that matters, not the rating.

With the Prom Night remake taking #1 at the BO last week, looks like PG13 is pretty much here to stay.

R might soon become ancient - a thing of the past.

We'll get PG-13 in the theaters and "unrated" or "uncensored" on DVD. We'll never lose our R horrors, but I do think it's funny how many #1 comedies are R rated now and #1 horror films are PG-13.

It's a matter of being confrontational, which can be harder without nudity and hardcore gore but not impossible. Don't forget the Black Cat, Mad Love and the Raven. All of these movies are inflammatory and sexually transgressive and they don't have much of anything to put them at an R. Solid PG-13 horror happens, but it feels less organic nowadays and has to be sort of Jamesian.

Between that and the Halloween remake, its pretty evident which way the BO and the studios will be leaning on...

Let's face it - they are making money, so they are calling the shots.

i will fully admit that there arent many good PG horror flicks.

PG is a limiter .. there will be little violence, language, nudity, gore.

Most adult horror situations include these things (a few if not all) and i prefer movies about adults - and i did when i was a kid too. (i grew up with the horror films of the '70s which were almost exclusively geared to adult audiences (adult stars, good directors)

there are always exceptions as a lot of people have noted - but if i was to make a list of my top 50 favorite horror films, i'd be suprised if 5 of them were rated PG.

The Saw series does fairly well consistently though.
