At least neither Freddy nor Jason sold out hardcore like fucking Predator did.

Completely agree with you 100%!

They dropped the ball...big time!

I agree that they should have just stuck to the comic but for some reason the writers or the director wanted to stay as far away from the video game and the comic book.
Once again, why?

Next time I'll say not needed. And I'm not surprised that it made that much, I mean it was PG-13, all of the little tinny-boppers could go see it. Thats like if a Jason or Halloween movie was made that was PG-13, it would make a killing at the box office b/c it would have some hip cool cast like Scream and maybe some famous rapper. Point is if its PG-13 and its got some kind of established fan base it will do well thanks to the little kids.

I watched AvP for one reason: to see some Predators and some Xenomorphs. It fulfilled that requirement nicely. There were points in the storyline that made me feel ill (as noted by other posters) but as long as I didn't pay attention to the whole friendship thing, I got some decent eye candy. It wasn't a waste of two hours of my life. If I would have shelled out $$$ for it, I might have been pissed. That's why it's good to have buddies with horror DVD collections. You can take turns buying/renting mistakes & then split the cost;)

You want to know why they raped this franchise AND made a ton of money AND are gonna rape it again? (and make even more money)

Oh come on, THINK about it...

You all knew this movie was gonna suck the INSTANT you found out it was PG-13. Every piece of information you found out about it made you like it less and less But there's the key:

You saw it anyway! In the theater or on DVD (or both!)... you spent your (or someone else's) money on this crap.

And that is how/why Hollywood gets away with this shit. They know that people will spend the money anyway. They know they've got the fans by the balls (ovaries?) when it comes to these popular franchises... and they're right. They DO have us by the reproductive organs because we cannot resist spending our money even though we KNOW we're getting Grade-F Bullshit.

Yeah, you have a small percentage of people who will keep their money in their pockets out of protest, but they aren't nearly enough for Hollywood to take notice. So go ahead... say you're not going to see the sequal to AvP. Say you'll never rent it or never spend a DIME on that (presumed) garbage. Guess what? 80% of you are liars, and the other 20% don't matter.

That's why shit like this happens.

And yes, I'll be seeing it when it comes out because I'm Hollywood's bitch.

DarkI is totally right about this - - - its the sad state of current hollywood.

back in the studio days - 30s-40s, the big studio chiefs wanted money - but they also wanted to outdo each other - bigger, better, more awards, more acclaim - so they'd take big risks and let directors push the envelope. then the studios collapsed and in the 60s and 70s there was such a loose concept of 'cinema' that all kinds of interesting directors emerged to create provocative indie films (mainstream like Kubrick, scorsese, coppola, and in horror, romero, craven, carpenter, etc.) But now the movies are run by mega-corporations who care only about share prices. . . a sad state of affairs, enough technical skill to render anyone's dream vividly real - but no one is dreaming any more.

I hate to admit it, but DarkI does have a point. And he's right, I am one of those people bitching about this movie but I will probably still go see it b/c I'm a die hard Alien and Predator fan.
