Religion has played the most significant part in the birth and destruction of nations in history. More people (millions+) have died because of their religious beliefs - ie., holy wars, the crusades, current war in Iraq, etc... than all other wars in history combined. Is there someone besides me that sees this as kind of an oxyoron?
Throughout history, religious fanatics were willing to die and kill for their belief in their chosen idol, be it God, Allah or who/what ever. Preach peace and love thy neighbor (unless they don't believe as you do, then kill them!) Hmmmm, what is wrong with this picture?
What about the remark made by Pat Robertson (respected Christian Leader on the CBN 700 club) in August, 2005 that called for Americans to assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez?
I personally don't have a problem with any religion or faith and believe that people have the right to worship and pray to what ever deity they choose. People can Pray to a cabbage head if they want, just don't push your belief on me.
In the same breath, I respect anyone with a strong belief in their God, and don't have a problem with open prayer, the display of the Ten Commandments etc., I don't have to pray if I choose not to, and I don't have to read the ten commandments if I don't want to. At the same time, if I am enjoying a horror movie, books, rock music, porn or a beer - that is my choice - so leave me alone.
There.....nuff said.
