It's just art. Who cares what side of the spectrum it's on anyway? Left, right, it's all the same, and someone is probably going to be pissed about it no matter what happens or what the "industry" says. The way I look at it is, "You're damned if you do and damned if you don't"

Hollywood cares what side of the spectrum it's on, and that's the point.

Well..i too have been keeping a close eye
on the reviews for that homo movie and in accordance..the public seems to be curious
cos apprently ..its doing well in the box office..
I don't think i will see it either
But all this odd judging of the film without seeing it first is redundant (unless you go in for reviews of reviews) - much like how complainers and campaigners have no clout when they are forced to admit they have never set eyes on the very film or TV show they want censored or banned.

Maybe "That Homo Movie" ( ;) ) will deserve to win Oscars.

well - i have seen brokeback mountain and found it incredible. it was deep and tender and well-acted. it brought a tear to my eye near the end. was it perfect - not by any means. but it is an impressive piece of work and, as far as i'm concerned, is as deserving of oscar attention as many of the other films this year.

that said, i'd still vote syriana as best picture. i could see ledge as best actor and gyllenhal as best supporting. (i was also fairly impressed by anne hathaway and michelle williams (who was in H20).

as for best director - i'd probably prefer to see Clooney get it for Goodnight and Good Luck - but if Lee won for brokeback, i would consider it well deserved.

That maybe true, but in today's world Hollywood is the biggest art-killing mechanism besides Jesse Helms (I can't believe Bono hung out with him. I mean that really made me want to tell our Irish Robinhood to stay the fuck out of American politics; it's none of his fuckin' business).

I really really feel this way about Hollywood. Maybe I'm a dewy eyed romantic, but Hollywood used to be more discreet in all that it did. Now it's like, "I'm a whore who can't act making tens of million a year."

Not passing judgement (because I am above doing that, because I am better than those who do!) but even Jackson has grabbed some Oscars with that touchie-feelie thing. Heavenly Creatures had the girl girl thing; and Lord of the Rings had weepy hobbit man-hugging all over it. I'm just making an observation, is all. I actually don't care about the Oscars, most of the time.
