I think someone saw the word Classic and figured John Carpenter belonged due to Halloween.

Or not ...

and yeah .. i thought The Mouth of Madness was pretty bad.
To make matters worse, this mystical town is Unionville, close to where i live. The asylum is the Toronto Water Treatment Plant and the 'Temple' where the writer lives is up the 400.

When you know the locations of a fantasy film extremely well, (especially one with a 'mystical town' its hard to suspend the imagination.

i only liked mouth of madness because it was a bad rendition of lovecraft... oh wait, it did not follow the real story, unionville was not arkham, and it kind of sucked. *LMAO* i wouldn't be able to take it seriously if i saw the water treatment plant, that's great. when i'm in toronto next I'm visiting the plant!!! HAHA!!! that is too funny. thanks for telling me!

1.vampires(i am a sucker for vampire flicks and this one was pretty decent)
2.the thing(can't deny it is good!)
3.halloween(hey can i borrow i knife? well, i didn't know it was william shatner season. haha)
4.the fog(aaaahhhhh... that was the one withthe pirates)
5.at the mouth of madness (only because lovecrafts name is in the credits)

one thing about Mouth .... Carpenter brought the lighting guy on board to do the commentary which is very cool.

Thats the one thing about Carpenter .. if the film is good or bad you still get more out of the commentaries. They should be a must for any film student. He's entertaining and informative .. her really understands how to do a commentary better than anyone else ... Kevin Smith is a close second.

Re Vampires ... i actually hated this film mostly because of James Woods performance which is odd for me because normally i like the guy.
I just found his tough guy act too formulatic ... as if Carpenter saw something similar in another movie and thought it would work in his ... He was no Snake Pliskin.
And the dick jokes fell flat..
Didnt care for Baldwin either .. i'm always amazed that guy finds work .. he just looks wrong in any roll and he's wooden.

I read the book too buy the way .. and it had more of a mercenary feel than a religeous crusader feel to it.
In fact it was called Vampire$ (with the dollar sign)

1) Assault on Precinct 13.
2) Halloween
3) The Fog
4) Prince of Darkness
5) They Live

Pity JC is M.I.A. these days. We need a 70s style revival of cheap, independent, intelligent horror so the likes of JC can rise again. Ahem...I know that sounds a bit messianic...'initially' speaking.
