We have 2 true contenders for the final spot from the 30s - The Ghoul & The Invisible Ray.

This is in addition to the 4 dark horses already backed by HDC-ians.

Waiting to find the one final film to seal the 20th spot from the 1930s. Then we can move into the 40s.

I would love to see the above 4 on the final list...all were great treats for the Karloff fans. Except the Black Room, the rest 3 were 3 best Karloff's Mad Scientist films...I just loved them, The Man They Could Not Hang comes with a story that may be fairly conventional and routine in today's genre standard, but there are some splendid moments in the house of Karloff menacing his "guests" and letting each one know how long he or she has to live; somewhat like a intriguingly take on Agatha Christie's timeless classic "Ten Little Indians/And Then There Were None".
The Man Who Lived Again aka The Man Who Changed His Mind was another highly entertaining addition to the king's Mad Scientist movies. And this time not only Karloff but also Frank Cellier, as Lord Haslewood, walks away with the picture whenever the duo is on screen. And with somewhat like a film noir mystery & dark atmospheric background, The Walking Dead was highly original in its premise that starts off a bit slowly but soon builds itself to a beautiful, memorable conclusion.

But if I have to pick one, then just for being a good Karloff fan, I'd pick The Black Room; though it comes with a quite traditional set up but it showcases one the best & pretty rare performances from (If I'm not mistaken, I think this is the only film where) the King of Horror on a double role of playing twin brothers: one good-one evil! And that makes it a must see, IMO.

Fearonsarms 01-28-2013 02:55 AM

V sorry to be a nuisance but can I change my backing of The Devil's Daughter? I only backed it (which I should have said so before) because it was the first horror movie to feature an all black cast. So though it was very significant, if you take it as a movie it is pretty bad and doesn't really deserve inclusion just for that. I don't think anyone else will vote for it anyway.

Fearonsarms 01-28-2013 02:58 AM

If it's ok with V as above I'll second Roshiq's backing for The Black Room. Great argument Roshiq :)

Done.

We now have 3 true contenders for the final spot from the 30s - The Ghoul, The Invisible Ray & The Black Room.

This is in addition to the 3 dark horses already backed, 2 by Fearonsarms and 1 by Despare.

Anyone else willing to second one of the contenders to seal the final spot?

realdealblues 01-29-2013 05:07 AM

Out of those 3...I would back The Invisible Ray.

Thank you, realdealblues and Duchess. We have found our 20th and final film from the 30s. List above is edited accordingly.

We shall move into the 40s in a couple of days, just to give time to others who might be in the process of compiling their last-minute lists for the 40s.

I have received 9 lists for the 40s so far. You have 48 more hours, guys!
