How are your audio settings after that AC/DC concert? :p

Urg, you sound like my grandmother... she actually watches her widescreen DVDs using the "zoom" function, so they stretch to fill the screen. When I set it to how it SHOULD look, with the black bars, she said the people didn't look right... Now she has an HDTV and hates it because she says nothing EVER looks right. *sigh*

Oh, and HD-DVD intially did use a better codec then Blu-Ray, but Blu-Ray now uses the same codec... so there is absolutely no difference between the two formats, other then Blu-Ray holds more on a disc.

i think there is very little difference in price between the special ed DVD and the Blu-Ray (and i believe the Blu-Ray has all the special features

I just meant that I'm too poor to afford a Blu-ray player in the first place. :(
Oh well. Someday, hopefully. It's certainly on my list.

Haha, I guess I'll just have to wait patiently for the price to go down.
I think Blu-ray will be here for a while.

Haven't got a separate Blu-ray player since my PS3 does the job wonderfully. The loading takes a bit of time (and juggling) but the movie play is quite crisp, and the sound is excellent. Just get yourself a PS3 and it doubles as both.

Very true. I was a bit of a SE/CE freak myself, and after noticing the price difference (around 2 bucks), it makes more sense to get the BDs.

Journey to the Center of the Earth (BD)

contains both 2D and 3D versions, so what the heck...let's see if the buy was worth it.

i tried the 3D on both the projector and the plasma ..

it sucked.

in the theatres an advanced technology was used that apparently made for the best 3D ever.

unfortunately our homes cannot accomodate this so its back to the shitty red/green dvd that is blurry and washes out the colour.

dont fret, i bought it too ... just keep the tylonol handy.

and - as with most 3d movies - it's made for the effects - not the story - but thats to be expected.

_____V_____ 11-21-2008 07:14 AM

The guy at the store mentioned that conventional red/blue glasses wont work with this one, only magenta/green would. He didnt have one, and I couldnt get a pair of those from any other nearby shops.

Either way, 3D isnt a reality for home viewing yet I suppose.

Washed out colors or not, it would be cool to see a rock hurling out of the TV screen right at my head. If the glasses show me even that, I d be happy.

the very best 3d is the very first effect you see .. with a trilobyte... it's in front of a dark background so there isnt much blurring.

unfortunately - it's realy downhill after that

Hmm...if anything, I ll get a kick out of it. Thanks for the heads up.

no prob .. i think it was important to have a proper expectation.
i was all set for the best 3d experience of my life and i was very pissed off.

go in knowing it sucks and you'll probably enjoy it more than i did

neverending 11-21-2008 08:43 AM

Wait- they sell you a 3-d movie that needs glasses, and the glasses don't come with it?

no - there's 4 pairs of the red green glasses included

(they suck - 1 size fits all - too small for an adult)

They have included the normal red/green ones with the pack.

Magenta/green is very tough to track down...some people get em made on special orders. (I heard cyan works too...but have yet to see it)

Unfortunately, our TVs dont support dual projection system that they do in the theaters - using 2 projectors in earlier times, and digitally doubling in today's theaters. This results in washed out colors and foggy distortions when you try to watch a 3D movie on TV wearing red/green or red/blue glasses, especially if the scenes are shot on brighter backgrounds.

brendan frasier seems like such a good guy .. really likeable ...

but other than Gods and Monsters - his resume is one of the most pathetic on record. I'm at the point where i just know that if he's in a movie - it's going to stink.

he needs to dump this kiddie stuff and do more serious roles.

I agree.....but for thr record....and I know its not a popular thing to say around here....I didn't hate The Mummy. I thought it was a good sunday afternoon popcorn movie. I haven't seen the third one yet.

I like a lot of Frasier's stuff, ESPECIALLY his role on Scrubs. I'm looking forward to Ink Heart too.
