Round 1: Match 29
The Lion King http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg Disney adaptation of Shakespeare's Hamlet, only not quite as depressing. Animation is on the high end of the Disney spectrum, and the voice acting is the best of all the Disney movies, even the ones nowadays that cram stars into every role possible. One of the last great animated films in the States before Toy Story started the eventual swing to CGI. VS The Untouchables http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg Film adaptation of a now unspoken of TV series. Top-notch cast, highlighted by Sean Connery in the role that won him an Oscar. |
Another tough match...
Untouchables. |
What a bizare conincidence...I just finished watching The Untouchables for the first time.
Two great movies, but I have to go with The Untouchables |
2-1 The Untouchables
So far, there's only one documentary that hasn't been eliminated, and it's the only one that hasn't had a match yet. So in theory, the entire Documentary genre could be eliminated in the first round |

Round 1: Match 30
The Godfather http://ec2.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg One of the movies generally regarded as the best of all time (along with Casablanca and Citizen Kane), and with good reason. The movie is absolutely great on every conceivable level. Acting, direction, cinematography, sound (something not often talked about in movies), pacing, everything. It's epic without feeling forced like a lot of movies, and a bunch of other stuff I could say, but really don't need to. VS Night of the Living Dead http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg Reinvented the zombie subgenre, if not horror in general. You don't see a lot of movies ripping off something like I Walked with a Zombie, or The Plague of the Zombies. They all go for NotLD. Dawn may have done it better, but this one did it first. So...yeah, seems like every match involving The Godfather could've conceivably been the finals. |

Wow, this is a really tough one!
I'm really torn, but I think I'll have to lean to NOTLD on this one. If it had been Godfather 2 (which I actually liked slightly more than the original) my vote may have gone the other way... NOTLD |
And the Godfather is out at 5-2. Next match in a second

Round 1: Match 31
Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg Zombies, ghosts, serial killers, vampires, aliens, bah! THIS is the really scary shit. Documentary about the West Memphis Three, accused and convicted of the murder of three first grade boys, mostly on the basis that they wore a lot of black and listened to heavy metal and weren't strict christians. Show of hands, how many people here fit that description? Infuriating that they were convicted, and frightening in that there are people like this right now. This shit could happen to any one of us. What are the odds of a zombie outbreak? VS High Fidelity http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg John Cusack vehicle, with one of his stronger performances next to Say Anything, and with a great and funny supporting cast, highlighted by Jack Black. Written very well, making Cusack's character an ass, but still likeable. I'll cast a vote for Paradise Lost right now. |

I must say, I'm kind of dissapointed The Godfather lost. Night of the Living Dead is a spectacular horror flick, but compared to the fucking Godfather?
High Fidelity. |

Paradise Lost

@ Alky(I m amazed myself), major part of the voters are horror movie buffs.;)
that being said, High Fidelity, nice movie. (I havent seen Paradise Lost, and must admit it looks intriguing) |

Round 1: Match 32
Raiders of the Lost Ark http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...8e79b010.L.jpg Payed homage to the pulp novels long before Pulp Fiction came around. No pretense about story or anything artsy here. Just action and thrills for the sake of action and thrills. And a solid performance on the part of Ford. VS Young Frankenstein http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg Another Mel Brooks classic, this time a send-up of old Universal horror films. Gene Wilder is, as usual, great, and the late Peter Boyle is unexpectedly hilarious as the unusual casting choice for the monster. |
