Shock Waves is really dull. You're better off spending your money on a poster of the flick's killer artwork.
--------------- http://smellslikescreenspirit.com/wp...res-poster.jpg A really energetic 80 minutes and worthy of being on any "top punk films" list. |

Re-posting these two here:
Stake Land (2010) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6.../StakeLand.png Really liked this film - Had a great narrative and was a fantastic character piece. The script is actually quite minimal, but the performances are so strong and the environment so vivid that you hardly notice. This is a slow-burner that focuses on character, emotion, and the world it creates. Definitely dark, but I like this angle of the vampire mythos. Highly recommended. 4/5. ... Exit Through the Gift Shop (2010) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...heGiftShop.jpg Utterly captivating and well-constructed "documentary" on street art and the manufacturing of art as a consumer product... Documentary is in quotation marks because it is speculative as to how much of the film is a true documentary and how much is an elaborate prank perpetrated by Banksy, Shepard Fairey, and Thierry Guetta. [SPOILERS] I believe that the movie truly started out as a documentary by Thierry Guetta, though the latter half wherein he transforms into Mr. Brainwash, I believe this persona was created with the help of Banksy and Fairey to comment on how the reproduction of art still creates a stir amongst the consumers and how owning a piece of a Persona is more important than the trashy art itself. Also, it's poking fun of self-indulgent and/or derivative artists... I love the references to Warhol and his commentary on mass production of art. [/SPOILERS] Ultimately, I found the finished product to be utterly brilliant. HIGHLY recommended. 5/5. |
The Killing Room-I suppose it is best described as political but I don't want to give much away. What makes it great is how you are lulled into a false sense of security with this film-when you feel relieved it then attacks you as it progresses. It's quite alarming and VERY relevant to the current climate.
Timecrimes-great time travel horror-the scope may be a bit small but it makes up for it with a captivating plot and it is very rewarding as the pieces all fit together. The Borrower-great horror comedy that will suit anyone who likes macabre humour. It really is laugh out loud funny I could have watched it for hours and I was gutted when it finished you really do want to see more of it. |

Thanks for the recs, Roshiq! Unfortunately Netflix doesn't have Loft yet, but The Memory of a Killer is definitely high up on my queue now. :D
... I Saw the Devil (2010) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...l/sawdevil.jpg FINALLY got around to watching this movie and... Wow. To say that I was impressed - To say that my jaw dropped a few times - To say that that held some of the some of the best performances that I've ever seen... All understatements. As it's been mentioned, part of what makes this movie so incredibly powerful are the intense and gripping performances by Min-sik Choi (absolutely chilling) and Byung-hun Lee (agonizingly biting) - I was particularly impressed with the latter, who shines as the haunted victim, resolute on revenge. His fierce and unblinking demeanor was horrifying as he descends into tragic anti-hero-dom. In terms of direction, each scene was filmed with deliberate ease. The writing and the story and the ending - oh God the superlative ending - All well done. This tale unravels slowly, with delightfully shocking peaks and climaxes until the pinnacle scene of perfect vengeance... My jaw did truly drop a few times... Great suspense and action interlaced with poetic tragic drama - Definitely an epic Korean Revenge flick, up there with The Vengeance Trilogy, though less playful. Fantastic film - HIGHLY recommended. 5/5. |

If you can find it. Lesser known Cronenberg movie about a group of people who get off on being in/watching/re-creating car crashes. Yeah. Totally weird, creepy, and absurd. Perfect late, late night flick in the dark. 4.69/5 |

Definitely recommended - Good little film. 4/5. |
^^ha crazy.
Someone on the Ween forum awhile back was trying to raise money for the guy who made that. Looks good. |
And thanks to whoever recommended Altered and Triangle.
The latter being a good head-scratcher and the the former being just plain great B movie fun. Well made! Any other bargain bin used horror dvds ($5 or less) this good? |
The Last Slumber Party (1988)
http://www.obscurehorror.com/LastSlumberParty.jpg Man oh man. I bought this on a whim; the DVD was like $4 at Disc Replay. And what a treat. I haven't watched the other film on this disc, Terror at Tenkiller, but The Last Slumber Party is a sleaze-lover's dream. This is Z-grade slasher stuff at its best. Hilariously inept, but seriously endearing. It's full of hysterical dialogue ("Queerbait!" "You're on the rag!"), bizarro murder scenes, and ridiculous heavy metal music. Completely fun and entertaining throughout, fans of looooow-budget video trash do yourself a favor and just buy this one. You'll want to watch it more than once. |

Frankenhooker-I was literally crying with laughter at this. It was directed by Frank Henenlotter (Basket Case, Bad Biology, Brain Damage) and was a complete blast Bit slow to start to well worth the entrance fee. Though not as sleazy as Basket Case it nicely delivers a refreshing take on "Whore Horror".

I still haven't got a blue ray player sadly. I recorded it off the horror channel and showed it to a mate who doesn't love horror as much as me but he gave Frankenhooker a huge thumbs up.
Also saw My Bloody Valentine (1980) finally with restored cut footage-which I thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend to anyone who hasn't seen it. Avoid any cut version though obviously. |
