When We Were Kings
http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
Thuroughly interesting documentary about the Rumble in the Jungle

VS

Vertigo
http://g-ec2.images-amazon.com/image...30509010.L.jpg
One of eight million Hitchcock classics, with always-great Jimmy Stewart. And, if I'm not mistaken, the first film to use the zoom in/dolly back camera trick that everybody uses now.

Despare 03-01-2007 05:13 PM

Vertig o

The_Return 03-01-2007 05:23 PM

I was spectacularly unimpressed with Vertigo, but it gets my vote on the basis that Ive never even heared of When We Were Kings:o

How the hell did that happen?

The STE 03-01-2007 06:57 PM

Either The Departed got 5 votes before Clockwork Orange or it had more votes over 5 when I checked the match, same way any movie wins

Round 1: Match 18

Empire Strikes Back
http://ec2.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
The best of the Star Wars series (IMO), other than that, it's still the same technical wonder that Star Wars was, but with a little bit better acting, and better characterization.

VS

Crumb
http://ec2.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
Outstanding documentary of the incomparable comic artist Robert Crumb, creator of Fritz the Cat among others.

Chasing Amy
http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
Arguably the best romantic comedy of all time (this or Say Anything). Proof that not all romantic comedies are brainless sugarjobs for teen girls and house wives to gush over.

VS

Rear Window
http://ec2.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
Another Jimmy Stewart classic, this one I'd put even above Vertigo. Excellent use of setting, very nice camera work, and Stewart totally carries the movie, while wearing the leg cast, no less.

Round 1: Match 20

Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit
http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
Awww. How could you not like Wallace and Gromit? Despite anime and CGI animation dominating the animated movie field these days, it's nice to see a good stop-motion feature film. Even when the weird innuendo comes in out of left field, there's not a frame in the movie that isn't at least a little charming.

VS

Perfect Blue
http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P...2.LZZZZZZZ.jpg
One of the better movies of this sort, live action or animated, if only for the fact that most movies like this are filled with dozens of clichés that this one manages to avoid, especially concerning the ending. And the art in terms of framing and all that rivals most of the stuff Miyazaki's done, surpassing at least a couple of his movies. Aronofsky got a lot of the look of Requiem for a Dream from this movie.

Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit

Didnt think I was going to like it but I literally enjoyed every second.

I LOVED Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit, great movie!

That being said my vote goes to Perfect Blue.

knife_fight 03-02-2007 11:42 AM

Perfect Blue. I hate anime and I love Wallace & Grommit, but even I have to admit that Perfect Blue is better artistically.
